Qiu Bo won the men's 10-meter platform title, helping China complete a gold medal sweep for the first time in diving at the world championships.

Qiu totaled 585.45 points in the six-dive final yesterday to win China's 10th gold and 14th overall at the outdoor pool. Qiu finished second two years ago in Rome.

American David Boudia earned the silver with 544.25, the only medal won by the United States in Shanghai. Sascha Klein of Germany took the bronze at 534.50.

"It's always very tough to compete with the Chinese," Boudia said. "It was good to hear teammates' cheer for me. I had a good time training and competing here."

"I'm really happy to win back the world championships title for China," Qiu said in relation to Britain's Tom Daley winning the gold in Rome.

"Now I'm looking forward to the London Olympics. Daley is a good diver and then he will be competing at home but I believe I have a chance to win."

Daley finished fifth. Boudia's teammate, Nick McCrory, was sixth. "I did two good dives and I am very satisfied," Daley said. "There is a big gap between me and Qiu Bo. I am really excited for the Olympics, because it will be held in our country. My dream is to win a gold medal there.

"The Chinese are fantastic. But you can see that everything can happen, and you can see the Chinese made mistakes in today's competition."

McCrory said he was very happy with his performance. "It has really built my confidence for next year's London Olympic Games. I know I can do better next year. "

Qiu received three 10s on his second dive and three more on his third. However, his Chinese teammate Zhou Luxin ended any chance of a one-two finish for the hosts when he badly botched his fifth dive.

Zhou received all 3.5s after a bad landing in which his lower legs smacked the water. He finished 10th of 12 divers in the final.
