New Zealand beat Russia 80-77 to win the title of the Stankovic Cup Guangzhou legTuesday evening.
New Zealand's Penny scored 30 points including four 3-pointers, while Vukona and Abercrombie added 16 and 15 respectively. The whole team made 8 of 17 attempts from downtown.
Russia's Golovin, Kashirov, Mateyunas and Gubanov totalled for 65 as their bench players contributed very little.
New Zealand led the game by 10 points with five minutes to go before Kashirov, Mateyunas and Gubanov staged a 9-0 run to narrow the gap to one point.
And the title match thus became a one-point game during the last two minutes with New Zealand holding the slight lead.
