Merlene Joyce Ottey is a Jamaican-born sprinter who now competes for Slovenia. Ottey's career as a top-level sprinter has now spanned more than three decades. She holds the record for the most Olympic appearances (seven) of any track and field athlete, and for winning the largest number of women's World Championships medals (fourteen).
The one thing missing from Ottey's glittering career is an Olympic gold medal. Her proclivity for picking up bronze medals in major championships has even earned her the title "Bronze Queen" in track and field circles.
