Unbeaten Beijing Ducks held off a strong 11-2 comeback in the last two minutes to beat Zhejiang Chouzhou 101-98, clinching their longest ninth straight win in history in Beijing on Friday at the ninth round of 2011-2012 CBA regular season.
Rallying from 0-4, Beijing launched a strong run to usurp the lead 32-18 by the end of first quarter. J.R. Smith stood out to sink points from both in and out the paint, whose 19 points led the home team to narrow the gap to 51-46 at the break.
Zhejiang tied it 55-55 with Guard Cao fei's 3-pointer 9 minutes 5 seconds left in the third. Former NBA star Stephon Marbury and center Randolph Morris each clutched a game-high 30 points to lead the away team.
Trailing 87-97 with only two minutes left on the clock, Zhejiang surged a 11-2 run and managed to close the margin to only one point, thanks to their in-form J.R. Smith who bagged 43 points in total.
Beijing's Morris buried in two points 9.4 seconds before the final whistle to secure the hard-earning victory.
"We made good preparations before the game. The last two minutes we nearly squandered a 10-point lead, which is unbearable," said Beijing Ducks head coach Min Lulei.
Xinjiang enjoyed a decent first quarter 24-13 advantage and never looked back to grab victory over Shandong Gold on 92-77.
Former NBA Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin had 19 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Meng Duo led the team with 21 points. As for Shandong, only three players got two-digit points. Sun Jie had a team-high 19 points.
