Schalke defeat Berlin to reach 2 place in Bundesliga

Clinical Schalke upset harmless Berlin 2-1 owing a terrific decider by new arrival striker Teemu Pukki to seal the third consecutive win at the opener of the 16th Bundesliga match day on Friday.

Both sides staged slow start in an average Bundesliga match, Hertha were more active but had to swallow the deficit at the 19th minute as Schalke top striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar utilized a follow up shot from close distance.

It is 14th goal for Dutchmen Huntelaar who takes over top position at the scorers standings. Berlin remained unfazed, in front of home crowd at Olympia stadium, to level the score at the 25th minute through striker Adrian Ramos who headed home a corner at the near post.

One minute before break Finnish Schalke striker Teemu Pukki sealed the deal for his side when he slotted the decider with a well-placed shot from penalty line to shock the host.

Berlin remained active but unable to convert their efforts into tangible reward against a well-positioned Schalke defense. Schalke move to second position with 30 points to set the top teams Dortmund and Bayern under pressure while Berlin stay on 9th position with 19 points.

The following matches are set for Saturday as the following: Bremen vs. Wolfsburg, Mainz vs. Hamburg, Nuremberg vs. Hoffenheim, Cologne vs. Freiburg, Augsburg vs. Monchengladbach and Hannover vs. Leverkusen.
