The mascot for the Sanya stop of the 2011-12 Volvo Global Ocean Race was unveiled by the Sanya Organizing Committee.

The mascot is a deer named Lulu, designed by American Chinese Liu Yong, as Sanya is known as "Deer City" in history.

Deer in Chinese is called "Lu". "LuLu" in Chinese culture stands for the luck and peace during sailing. The deer shaped running mascot symbolizing sailors' forwardness.

Sanya has won the bid to host the Volvo Global Ocean Race as one of the 10 stopovers, with the first team to arrive at Sanya on February 4, 2012 and to last till January 19.
