Chinese swimmer Sun Yang won the men's 1,500m freestyle gold medal in a world record time at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai in July. Sun clocked a winning time of 14:34.14, beating the previous world record of 14:34.56 set by Australian Grant Hackett on July 29, 2001. Chinese divers also dominated the pool by sweeping all the 10 diving gold medals on offer at the championships.
