Ukrainian boxer Vitali Klitschko (R) fights British boxer Dereck Chisora (L) during the WBC World Heavyweight Championship in the Olympic hall in Munich, Germany, 18 February 2012. |
Ukrainian heavy world champion Vitali Klitschko defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) belt after unanimous decision although Dereck Chisora made life surprisingly very difficult at sold-out Munich Olympia stadium on late Saturday night.
It is the ninth effective title defence for the 40 year old boxer and his 44th win at his 46th match.
Klitschko dominated the fight from the start against British contender Chisora who really staged a hard fight especially starting from the 4th round.
Chisora increased the pressure with haymakers and body shots yet Klitschko was in control of the fight although he seemed a little bit passive and tired.
Chisora remained aggressive through out the match but Klitschko ensured more clear shots even though they were not very powerful as Chisora remained absolutely unfazed.
After 12 rounds of exciting and powerful boxing the three referees came to the unanimous decision in favour of Vitali Klitschko (118:110, 118:110, 119:111), which didn't reflect the active and aggressive performance by British contender Chisora.
"It was hard today. Chisora has staged a good performance," exhausted heavy world champion Klitschko said after the fight.
