Zhu Fangyu of Guangdong Southern Tigers shoots a 3-pointer in front of Beijing's Chen Lei in Game 3 of CBA Finals on Sunday in Guaongdong. |
Defending champions Guangdong Southern Tigers battled back into CBA title contention, beating Beijing Ducks 111-93 to trim their deficit in the finals to 2-1 on Sunday night in Guangdong.
League MVP Zhu Fangyu scored 26 points, had five rebounds and three assists.
"Defense is the key to our victory but we also did a good job on the offensive end," the CBA all-time leading scorer said after the match.
No team in CBA playoff history has ever overcome a 0-3 deficit.
Zhu made sure Guangdong won't have to. And this time he got some help.
Aaron Brooks, the former Houston Rockets point guard, scored 30 points, including six 3-pointers. James Singleton had 21 points and 19 rebounds.
The duo inspired a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to make the host up 92-75 with 5:31 left. Stephon Marbury hit four 3-pointers in a row to narrow the gap to 10 points but Guangdong managed to keep the visitors at bay.
Marbury led Beijing Ducks with game-high 39 points. Randolph Morris had 21 points and 14 rebounds.
The Ducks' aggressive defense came at a price as Zhu Yanxi, Ji Zhe and Randolph fouled out.
Game 4 of the best-of-seven series will be on Wednesday in Beijing.
