Czech veteran Milan Baros announced to stop serving his national duty as the Czech Republic were eliminated from Euro 2012 after a 1-0 quarterfinal defeat to Portugal on Thursday.
Baros, 30, scored 41 goals in his 93 caps for the national team.
"He only said it to the guys in the locker room, I can't quote him," said Czech team spokesman Jaroslav Kolar.
"The other players and the coach reacted with a big applause that lasted about five minutes. It was pretty long and it was pretty emotional," Kolar added.
The Galatasaray forward, who scored five goals at Euro 2004 to help the Czech make the last four, had no earning at Euro 2012. In his club career, Baros won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005.
