Chinese Super League (CSL) champions Guangzhou Evergrande could only come home empty-handed, upset by league runners-up Jiangsu Shuntian who harvested two big awards, MVP and coach of the year in the 2012 CSL award-presenting ceremony here Thursday night.
Argentine midfielder Dario Conca narrowly missed the MVP awards despite his superb performance in the league with 10 goals and 11 assists. Cristian Danalache, who scored 23 goals for runners-up Jiangsu Shuntian, was awarded the most valuable person in the league.
Competition between Conca and Dnalache had been fierce as both showed extraordinary quality during the 7-month long league. Conca, who was the two times MVP of Brazilian league before he joined Guangzhou in 2011, has been the anchor of the Chinese champions. But Danalache provided explosive statistics with 23 goals, far ahead of other strikers in the league.
Jiangsu's coach Dragan was gifted coach of the year as he guided the team to the second place on the table.
