Fourteen-time Olympic winner Michael Phelps will give up 200m freestyle in London Olympic Games.
Phelps qualified in five individual events for London and is expected to swim all three relays. But his coach Bob Bowman announced Monday on Twitter that the 27-year-old will be focusing on seven events.
"Michael Phelps will be removing the individual 200 freestyle from his Olympic program," Bowman tweeted. "This will give him a full slate of 7 events."
This means Phelps will swim in the 200 and 400 individual medley and the 100 and 200 butterfly as well as three relay events.
With Phelps dropping the 200 free, Ricky Berens moved up to claim an individual spot on the Olympic team for the first time. He was already scheduled to swim the 400 and 800 free relays.
