NBA's Philadelphia 76ers announced Tuesday that their guard Jason Richardson has undergone successful knee surgery.

The 12-year NBA veteran, who has not played for a month and will be sidelined for the rest of the season, had an articular cartilage lesion on the medial condyle of his left femur bone repaired at New York's Mt. Sinai Medical Center.

Richardson is expected to be away from the court for recovery in six to nine months, meaning his 2012-2013 season has been over.

The 32-year-old joined the 76ers from Orlando Magic as part of a four-team trade last August and averaged 10.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in 33 games this season.
