World No.5 Li Na fought back from a 2-5 deficit in the first set to overcome wild card Garbine Muguruza 7-6(6), 6-2 in the fourth round of the Sony Open Tennis on Monday afternoon in Miami.
Despite relinquishing a 5-2 lead in the first set and then a 6-1 advantage in the ensuing tie-break, Li held off the Spaniard and then put her foot down in the second set, converting both of her break point opportunities to advance in one hour and 41 minutes.
The 5th-seeded Li will clash with Serena Williams in the last eight encounter.
The 31-year-old Williams, who is bidding to become the the first woman to lift six trophies in Miami, survived a scare from world No.13 Dominika Cibulkova.
Williams struggled for accuracy against Cibulkova as the first set raced from her grasp in quick time. However, the top seed battled back to take the next two for a 2-6 6-4 6-2 victory.
