Lang Ping attends a press conference after appointed head coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team. |
Lang Ping on Thursday was appointed head coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team with an expectation to pull the former Olympic winners out of slump in their build-up for the Rio Games.
Lang's appointment ended a six-month search following Yu Juemin's resignation on September 18, 2012.
"It's a great honor to be back to coach the national team after 14 years. Chinese volleyball is facing lots of difficulties, so please give me some time," said Lang at the press conference. "I'm confident that with joined efforts we can achieve good results in the Rio Olympic Games."
Lang used to coach the Chinese national team from 1995 to 1999, during which time she led the squad to the silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and second place at the 1998 World Championships in Japan.
At the same press conference, Chinese volleyball authorities also unveiled Xie Guochen as the head coach of the Chinese men's volleyball team.
