Napoli beat struggling Pescara 3-0 on Saturday to open up a 10-point advantage over third-place AC Milan and move closer to making sure of their place in the Champions League next season.
Thanks to the efforts of goalkeeper Ivan Pelizzoli, Pescara managed to hold Napoli in the first half, but could no longer reign in the visitors in the second as Gokhan Inler, Goran Pandev and Blerim Dzemaili scored against the Serie A bottom club team.
Napoli's win prevents Juventus from being able to celebrate winning the Scudetto on Sunday, and leave Pescara eight points from safety with four games of the season remaining.
Napoli head coach Walter Mazzarri said he was worried during the first half as his side could not score.
"It is fundamental to break the deadlock in these games and I was worried," he said. "because I had put a lot of effort into firing the players up. The reaction of my men convinced me and I was able to relax."
Udinese notched up their fourth win in a row after beating Cagliari 1-0 thanks to a goal from Roberto Pereyra. Pereyra, who hit the crossbar in the first half, made amends with a more difficult effort midway through the second half to lift Udinese into a qualifying berth for the Europa League, ahead of the remainder of the weekend's matches on Sunday.
Atalanta and Bologna drew 1-1 in a low-key affair at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia. The result increases the two teams' cushions over the relegation zone to 10 and 11 points respectively.
