China's Peng Shuai reached the semi-finals of the Brussels Open with a comfortable win over Sloane Stephens on Thursday.

The 6-2, 6-3 win means Peng is now through to the seventh Premier-level semifinal of her career, but this has been a tough stage for her, as she has gone 1-5 in her previous six - but on the flip side, the only win did come at this very tournament in 2011, when she made it to the final before falling to Caroline Wozniacki.

"Two years ago I made the final here so I always feel really good here, and now I'm in the semifinals again," Peng said. "I'll keep fighting in the next match and hopefully I can make the final again."

Stephens, seeded four places above her opponent at number four, has stormed up the rankings this year to number 17 in the world.

However, Stephens was let down by her serve as she was broken six times in eight games - including all four of her service games in the first set - to lose 6-2 6-3 in an hour and 10 minutes.

Switzerland's Romina Oprandi prevented an all-Chinese semi-final by beating Zheng Jie in three sets.
