CFA has fired Camacho as head coach of national soccer team. |
China Football Association (CFA) announced on Monday that they've decided to terminate its contract with national soccer head coach Jose Antonio Camacho following an embarrassing 1-5 defeat to Thailand in a friendly match, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Camacho took over from previous head coach Gao Hongbo in August 2011, signing a three-year contract for a reported US$8 million a year.
The former Spanish and Real Madrid head coach is said to have accepted the termination. Compensation details are still being worked out.
The issue of compensation has been the biggest obstacle to terminating the coach. A unanimous decision was made, however, at a meeting presided over by deputy director of sports Cai Zhenhua, that Camacho should be fired, even if it means compensating Camacho heavily.
