Chelsea have turned down Barcelona's £35m offer for David Luiz and told the La Liga champions not to return with a second offer.

The Stamford Bridge club's hierarchy were swift to reject an opening £35million bid for the central defender when it arrived from the Spanish champions on Wednesday.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is adamant that the Brazilian defender is a core member of his squad and says he has no interest in selling his best players.

Barcelona - now managed by Argentine coach Gerardo Martino - have made signing a centre-back a priority.

Paris St-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva had been linked with a move to the Nou Camp but the Brazilian signed a new contract with the French champions last month.

David Luiz, who has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich, insisted earlier this summer that he had no intention of leaving and was quick to state his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge and play for Mourinho.
