Li Na of China returns a shot to Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden during their 2013 US Open women's singles match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center August 28, 2013 in New York.

No. 5 seed Li Na of China reached the US Open third round on Wednesday with a 6-2,6-2 victory over Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden.

Li, playing in her 30th Grand Slam and a New York quarter-finalist in 2009, clinched her third career win over Arvidsson, who has now not progressed beyond the second round in seven attempts.

The Chinese star will next face either British 30th seed Laura Robson, who knocked her out of the tournament in 2012, or France's Caroline Garcia.

"Both players have improved a lot in the last year," said Li. "I look forward to the chance of playing Laura."

Arvidsson got her first game when she was down by 3-0. Neither players were able to break until the eighth game, in which Arvidsson made two double faults to award Li a set point. Li seized the chance to take the first set 6-2.

The second set was much more difficult for Li. The 31-year-old made another break at the beginning of the second set and took a 2-0 lead, only to see Arvidsson broke back to draw the score to 2-2. Li let go no chance in the following games, winning four straight to seal her victory 6-2.

Li, the 2011 French Open titlist, hit 29 winners to only four for her 100th-ranked opponent.
