Nadal said that ending the 2013 season as No. 1 is a special thing.

Top tennis player Rafael Nadal said Tuesday that the fact he's capped off 2013 season with being world's No. 1 is special for him. He is now competing at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

"[The rankings are just] Numbers, that's all," he said, "In the end, being number one again is special. I was confident that when I was back I would have the chance to keep competing well and play for important tournaments, but I never thought about being back at number one."

"This means that I am having probably one of the best seasons of my career."

As Rafael Nadal enters the Shanghai Rolex Masters, he could be the first player to win six ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events in one year. He won five at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events in 2013.

"Well, I think that winning five is something amazing already," Nadal said, "I consider the Masters 1000s one of the toughest tournaments to play because if you are not playing well from the beginning, it is very difficult to get through. I know in the past this part of the season was hard for me, but I am confident that I can keep playing well."

Nadal also said that his motivation to make such a great comeback is always the same, "Try to be able to have the feeling when you are going to a tournament, the feeling that you can compete well against anybody. You can win and you can lose, but have the feeling that you have enough level to win against every player. "

"At the end, when I am back on the tour, I am doing what I want to do. I am enjoying all the things that the competition gives me. "

The Shanghai Rolex Masters is being held from Oct. 6 - 13 2013 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center, Shanghai. The tournament was voted by the players as the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year from 2009-2012.
