Ronnie beat Ding 6:5 in a marvellous fightback [file photo] |
Ronnie O'Sullivan produced a marvellous comeback to stun Ding Junhui and squeeze edge into the semi-finals of the Champion of Champions event in Coventry.
The reigning world champion will now face Neil Robertson in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Breaks of 53 and 66 helped Ding into a 3-0 lead but O’Sullivan hit back to take the next two frames.
Following a scrappy sixth frame, Ding edged further ahead but a terrific 98 saw the 'Rocket' close the gap again. In-form Ding, who recently became the first ever player to win three successive ranking events, knocked in a 91 and appeared set for the match.
Despite the occasional splutter and two tremendous safety shots, Ding seemed to retreat into his shell and as the tension built, O'Sullivan rose to the occasion.
The 37-year-old notched a 55 in the 10th to force a decider which the Englishman then took despite Ding building a healthy 50 point lead at one stage.
