Substitute Gerard Deulofeu's thumping drive earned a 1-1 draw for a resolute Everton side against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. |
Arsenal failed to extend their lead at the Premier League table to seven points on Sunday as Gerard Deulofeu's late goal earned Everton a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium.
Mesut Ozil scored a close-range volley with 10 minutes left, registering his fourth league goal of the season.
But the 19-year-old Deulofeu, who had been fielded on the ground for just five minutes, thumped a powerful shot to the top corner just six minutes before the stoppage time.
The point proved Toffees' tough characters as they remain the only side with one league defeat of this season.
Arsenal might feel disappointed with the late draw but still led the table with five points ahead of Liverpool. Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton followed the duo after the 15th round.
Also on Sunday, another London team Fulham beat Aston Villa 2-0 to end a run of seven straight defeats.
The second home win of the season moved Fulham to the lead of relegation zone. They are only separated from the 17th placed West Ham by goal difference.
