A vanishing spray used to mark the distance of a defensive wall from a free-kick will be used during next year's World Cup in Brazil, football's governing body FIFA said on Thursday.

The decision follows a successful trial of the foam-like substance during the FIFA Club World Cup, currently being played in Morocco.

"We started using it in all competitions this year and at the World Cup we will definitely keep on the same path," FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Thursday.

"For the discipline of the game, it's good. I was skeptical at first, but after talking to referees who used it, they were all happy with it."

During the trial, referees have carried an aerosol can of the water-based substance to mark the minimum 10-meter distance between the wall and free-kick taker.

The 2014 World Cup will also feature goal-line technology for the first time at football's signature tournament.
