The wide variations in climate have made prediction for Sochi's weather forecast a daily challenge for Russian meteorologists.

Alexander Milnichuk is with the Meteorological Coordination Centre for the Sochi Olympics.

"The weather changes in the Sea Cluster and in the Mountain Cluster very fast, and it is very difficult to make exact forecasts."

The latest forecast show the weather condition is 'comfortable' for the opening of the Olympic Games next Friday.

Valery Lukyanov, is the Chief Olympic Meteorologist.

"In Krasnaya Polyana the night temperatures will be from minus 2 Celsius to plus 2 Celsius and during the day the temperature will be plus 5, and on certain days even plus 10 Celsius. High in the mountains at the stadiums where the ski races and biathlon are held the night temperature in the first half of February will be minus 3 to minus 8 Celsius and during the day zero or plus 5 Celsius."

The mountain sports centre of Krasnaya Polyana lies about 40 kilometers inland from Sochi.
