Kanu Heart Foundation said on Monday that the former Nigeria striker has undergone corrective cardiac surgery in the United States.
Nwankwo Kanu, former skipper of the Super Eagles who served English Premiership's Arsenal, first had heart surgery in the late 1990s to correct a faulty aortic valve.
That experience prompted him to set up a foundation to build five hospitals in Africa to treat undiagnosed heart disease.
According to Onyebuchi Abia, the co-ordinator of the Kanu Heart Foundation, Kanu, 37, underwent the corrective surgery in Cleveland, Ohio at the weekend during his annual medical check-up.
