AS Roma's Dutch international midfielder Kevin Strootman will be sidelined for the rest of the season and has been ruled out for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with a knee injury, the Italian club confirmed on Monday.
The 24-year-old ruptured ligaments on his left knee in Roma's 1-0 defeat to Napoli on Sunday. He will undergo a surgery which will need at least four month to recover.
Strootman was a regular in Louis van Gaal's side during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He has earned 25 international caps and scored three goals.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13.
