English Premier League giants Manchester United on Tuesday sacked manager David Moyes and named Welsh veteran Ryan Giggs as interim manager.
"Manchester United announces that David Moyes has left the club," United said. "The club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role."
The 50-year-old Moyes, former coach of Everton, took over the team after legend manager Alex Ferguson left at the end of last season.
However, the ten-month spell in the Old Trafford turned out to be a nightmare for Moyes who has been under intense pressure with the team ousted in the quarterfinals of Champions League and sitting 7th in the league table with only four games left.
"Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club's most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made," United said in a statement.
The 40-year-old Giggs has been playing in United since 1991 and won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, four FA Cups, three League Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup with the team.
On July 4, 2013 the midfielder was appointed as player/coach by Moyes and has played 21 matches for the "red devils" so far this campaign.
