Inter president Erik Thohir confirmed on Wednesday that Javier Zanetti will retire at the end of the season to join the club management as a director.
Inter discussed with Zanetti about his future over the past few months, and the Argentine, who will turn 41, has agreed to stop playing, according to Thohir.
"The meetings with Zanetti have been going on over the last couple of months to know his vision. The discussion is already done, he'll become part of the management," he said.
The captain just recovered from a leg injury and played in Inter's 0-0 draw with Napoli last week.
