Venus Williams opens Rogers Cup with victory

Venus Williams opened her Rogers Cup trip by beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 on Tuesday.

It was a close match. Williams was the 26th in the WTA world rankings and Pavlyuchenkova was 24th.

Venus would possibly meet her sister Serena Williams in the semifinals.
