President of the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Michel Platini said Thursday he believes that the current FIFA President Sepp Blatter can be beaten at Friday's FIFA presidential election.

Platini told a press conference in Zurich that he had asked Blatter to resign following the crisis which hit FIFA on Wednesday when seven high-profile officials were arrested by Swiss police in Zurich.

"Enough is enough," said Platini to Blatter, who refused to step down prior to the election to be held on Friday, where the 79-year-old is hoping to be re-elected for a fifth consecutive mandate.

Platini believes a vast majority of European football associations will vote in favor of the Swiss head's only opposition candidate Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan on Friday, and that he will do everything he can do convince more to follow suit.

He also called on non-European football associations to vote for the young Jordanian.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter hosted an emergency meeting earlier on Thursday to manage the crisis which hit the football federation Wednesday when seven high-profile FIFA officials were arrested by Swiss police in Zurich on the request of U.S. authorities.

A further seven were also charged by U.S. authorities with allegations of corruption including fraud, bribery and money laundering.

The opening of the 65th FIFA congress is taking place on Thursday.
