Liverpool have agreed a deal in principal to sign the Brazil and Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino, according to numerous reports.
Liverpool are likely to have to pay an initial £25m with further fees taking that total nearer £29m, which would make it the second largest transfer in their history – behind the £35m signing of Andy Carroll. They have had a delegation in Chile watching the 23-year-old at the Copa América, where he scored in Brazil's 2-1 win over Venezuela on Sunday.
Firmino has spent the past four-and-a-half years at Hoffenheim and scored seven league goals last season. Firmino can play anywhere across the front three and a deal will only heighten speculation that Raheem Sterling is set to leave the club.
Sterling saga continues as Liverpool anticipate a third bid from Manchester City for the winger.
An offer totalling close to £50m will likely be enough to trigger a deal for the England international. Liverpool will still have to give a 20 per cent sell-on to QPR so will want as much of the fee up front as possible.
