Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland lines up a putt on the eighth green during the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard at Bay Hill Club and Lodge on March 20, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. |
Jason Day has leapfrogged Rory McIlroy to move up to second place in golf's world rankings behind American Jordan Spieth.
The 28-year-old Australian, who briefly enjoyed top spot last year after his win in the PGA Championship, held firm to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida. It was the eighth US PGA Tour win of his career and it sets him up well for another tilt at the first of the year's majors, the Masters, at Augusta National in just over two weeks' time. Northern Ireland's McIlroy, who finished in 27th place at Bay Hill, slips back to third with two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson of the US staying in fourth.
