Morocco's Jamel Chatbi failed a drugs test at the Berlin World Championships, the Moroccan Athletics Federation announced on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old, who won the men's steeplechase title at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy, was scheduled to run the final later on Tuesday.

An 'A' sample from Chatbi taken on Aug. 15 tested positive for clenbuterol, a banned stimulant which can also be used as medicine, a statement from the Moroccan federation said.

Chatbi had qualified for the final with second place in his first round heat on Sunday.

He is the first athlete to fail a dope test at the championships.
