The USA's Tianna Bartoletta won gold in the women's long jump at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday with a personal best leap of 7.17 meters.

The 30-year-old current world title holder beat defending Olympic champion Brittney Reese of the United States by just 2cm.

Serbia's Ivana Spanovic, who led with two rounds remaining, took bronze with a national record 7.08m.

Germany's Malaika Mihambo was fourth with a personal best leap of 6.95m while Nigeria's Ese Brume was fifth with 6.81m.

It was Bartoletta's second Olympic gold medal. She was also a part of the USA's victorious 4x100m relay team at the London 2012 Olympics.
