Chen Long of China returns a shot in the final.

Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei suffered a third successive Olympic men's singles final defeat as he lost the Rio 2016 gold medal match 21-18 21-18 to Chen Long of China.

Chen beat Lee to become world champion last year and again proved too good for his rival.

Viktor Axelsen celebrated Denmark’s second medal of the tournament by edging twice champion Lin 15-21 21-10 21-17 in the playoff for bronze, denying the Chinese great a medal in his Olympic swansong.
