England manager Roy Hodgson hopes Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could recover in time and be fit enough to play in England's second group match in Brazil World Cup against Uruguay on June 19.

"He's done very well and we will be working on his training programme during the course of the week," said Hodgson at England's training camp here on Tuesday. "The doctors hope he'll be ready for the second game."

The 20-year-old Chamberlain injured his right knee during England's 2-2 draw in Miami last Wednesday, one of the final three friendly matches for England to tune-up for the World Cup which saw England only grabbed one victory.

The knee injury will keep Chamberlain sidelined in England's group opener against Italy on Saturday in Manaus. And Hodgson also stressed that he could offer no guarantee for Chanberlain to play the game against Uruguay.

Meanwhile, Hodgson cleared rumors that team skipper Steven Gerrard had a groin injury adding that the Liverpool midfielder is training normally with the squad and also did some extra work.

"We did a training session (after arriving in Brazil) where the players who didn't play on Saturday (against Honduras) trained, and some of the others did a warm-down session," said Hodgson.

"Steven did some extra work at the end of that training session. There's nothing wrong with him ."
