Switzerland substitute Haris Seferovic struck deep in stoppage time to give his side a 2-1 win over Ecuador in Group E.

Switzerland secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ecuador in their World Cup Group E match here on Sundyay.

Haris Seferovic scored in stoppage-time after Enner Valencia and Admir Mehmedi looked to have secured a point for both sides.

Ottmar Hitzfeld's side were made to pay for sloppy defending as Stephan Lichtsteiner felled Jefferson Montero on the left flank. From Walter Ayovi's resulting free-kick Enner Valencia lost Johann Djourou to head home unmarked from four meters after 22 minutes.

Valentin Stocker was replaced after the interval by Mehmedi, who repaid the coach's faith very soon. Ricardo Rodriguez's corner was met by the Freiburg youngster, who nodded in ahead of Carlos Gruezo from close range.

Three minutes into the injury time, Rodriguez crossed on the left for the late substitute Seferovic to fire dramatically into the roof of the net.
