High above the concrete court on the eighth floor of Center court at the Beijing China Open, Hawk-Eye game monitoring companyset up their equipment today.

Hawk-Eye cameras will be monitoring every match played on Center court. Their cameras will also be in place at Lotus court, but will not be used at Moon court this year.

Hawk -Eye is a regular in the world of tennis with their equipment being used at the Grand Slam tournaments, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and the WTA Premier tournaments.

Hawk-Eye system engineer Christopher Perry described Hawk-Eye cameras as being similar to black and white security cameras. The specialized frame rate and technology are found in the computers the company uses.

When in doubt, China Open players are capable of questioning the accuracy of certain calls by using Hawk-Eye. Perry said the players are allowed 3 challenges per set with an additional challenge in a tiebreak set. If a player challenges a shot and are correct in their challenge, they receive that point challenge ability back.

Perry explained when players are allowed to question a shot using Hawk-Eye, "A point ending shot or if they stop play, if they want to they can stop play anytime to challenge."
