Chinese veteran player Li Na upset home favorite Vania King for
a third round victory at the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.
Li Na, the only Chinese hope in the women's singles competition,
stunned Vania in two straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
She will meet the winner of the match between E. Dementieva and
S. Mirza in a fourth round showdown.
Meanwhile, two pairs of Chinese girls scored easy wins in the
doubles competition.
Newly crowned Australian Open champions Zheng Jie and Yan Zi
beat international combination Shinobu Asagoe and Lisa McShea 6-1,
7-6 for a second round berth.
Athens Olympic gold medallist Li Ting and Sun Tiantian breezed
into the third round with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Laura Granville
and Nicole Pratt.
