Li Jie, director of the Social Sports Administration Center under China's Sports Ministry, said on Wednesday that dancesport is striving to gain a berth in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Li told a press conference that Social Sports Administration Center is doing their utmost to help dancesport be listed in the Guangzhou Asiad.

"Dancesport has entered the Asian Indoors Games in Thailand, which proved a breakthrough for this sport, and it was also a formal sport in the East-Asian Games in Macao. In both games, we got good results and we are trying to make it a formal sport in the 2010 Asian Games."

"After the Doha Asian Games in December 2006, the program for the Guangzhou edition may come out," He added.

As for dancesport's efforts to enter the Summer Olympic Games, Li said: "World Dance and Dancesport Council (WDDSC) has spared no efforts to achieve that goal but, as we know, it's very hard as the International Olympic Committee has set a cap of 28 sports in the Summer Olympiad. "
