North Korean Hong Su Jong beat China's He Ning to win the uneven
bars title, grabbing North Korea's the second gold medal at Asiad
gymnastics on Tuesday.
Hong was the last to perform and posted the highest score of
15.525 points, surpassing China's He Ning, who led provisionally
with15.000 points.
Hong demonstrated a flawless routine, while He did not reach the
exactness and accuracy of her routine in spite of being successful
to avoid blunders.
He Ning was the top qualifier for the final, earning a 14.950 on
Sunday. He was only able to score 14.900 on the uneven bars in the
all-around final on Monday, with Zhou Zhuoru and Hong Su Jong
bettering her score. All three gymnasts had been rated as capable
of winning the final.
Zhou Zhuoru committed a mistake for failing to accomplish the
complete action and finished only sixth.
Hong's teammate Cha Yong Hwa took the bronze with 14.800
points.
He already has two gold medals at the Games, from the team final
and the individual all-around final.
Mayu Kuroda of Japan is the only gymnast here who competed in
the uneven bars final at the 2006 world championships by finishing
fourth with 15.400, but she scored 14.175 points to settle in
fifth.
