PSV Eindhoven squeezed past second-from-bottom ADO Den Haag 2-1
on Saturday to power 11 points clear in the Dutch top soccer league
Eredivisie before winter break.
Veteran forward Patrick Kluivert beat visiting goalkeeper Robert
Zwinkels from close range in the 33rd minute before Peruvian
Jefferson Farfan curled in a free kick early in the second half to
double PSV's lead.
Wesley Verhoek pulled one back for Den Haag with 12 minutes to
go.
PSV have 53 points from 20 matches. Ajax, held to a 2-2 draw at
NEC Nijmegen, are second on 42 points, two more than AZ Alkmaar who
host Roda JC Kerkrade on Sunday.
Sparta Rotterdam brushed past 10-man Twente Enschede 3-0. Sjaak
Polak converted a 24th-minute penalty before Rachid Bouaouzan added
a second goal seven minutes later.
Otman Bakkal was sent off early in the second half and Ivan
Cvetkov sealed the win for 13th-placed Sparta two minutes from
time.
Twente are fifth on 38 points, one behind Feyenoord following
their 3-1 derby win over Excelsior Rotterdam on Friday.
RKC Waalwijk remain bottom with 13 points after a 2-0 home
defeat by Groningen. Koen van der Laak and Erik Nevland netted for
Groningen. Hans Mulder of Waalwijk was dismissed midway through the
first half.
The next full round of matches will be on Jan. 20-21 when the
league resumes after a winter break.
