After several months' rest for injury, Amelie Mauresmo is coming
back to tennis again. Instead of choosing the tournaments in
Europe, the 24 WTA titles winner took China Open to start again and
to get back to her best level.
"I like it here. I just want to reach my good level and get back
to practice. This is the place I choose to start again," the
currently No.11 in the world explained her trip to Beijing.
In this year's Roland Garros, Mauresmo was beaten by Safarova
3-6, 6-7 and finally reached the third round. After that, she was
injured in July and took nearly two month's rest.
"For 5-6 months I didn't touch rackets. But I still did some
physical practice for fun. I had much quality time with my family
and friends. I've played in the tournaments for 10 years and I
think I need time to have a break. After a while I felt I missed
tennis and then I decided to take my racket and get back."
Though she was currently out of Top 10, the French player still
had confidence to start again next year.
"It's really difficult for me to recover from my surgery in
March. My doctor said the injury would definitely affect my
physical energy. That's why I decide to come back here and prepare
to get back. 2007 is almost behind. I will definitely play 4-5
tournaments and get ready to reach into Top 10 again next year. My
goal for next year will also include Grand Slam and Olympic
Games."
