The vice president of Brazil's Flamengo soccer club, Kleber
Leite, announced on Wednesday that he will hold a meeting with
Adriano Galliani, from Milan, to discuss the possibility of
bringing Ronaldo back to Rio de Janeiro.
The representative from the Italian team will discuss in Rio de
Janeiro to discuss the "project" that Leite has in mind.
"We want Ronaldo. We want him to sign a contract that would last
until the 31st of December of 2010. Aside from brining him back to
the team, we want to involve him with a social project for
children. We have yet to speak with the administration of Milan, but
Galliani will be in town over the New Year," explained Leite.
"Milan is like a brother and we will not disrespect them. They
take good care of their important players, however, the most
important element is the desire and the will of the player," added
Leite, certain the Ronaldo would be interested in coming back to
his old team. Leite's plan is that Ronaldo would end his career
with Flamengo, the same place where he got started.
"Ronaldo and I will spend new year's eve together in Angra dos
Reis and I am sure we will begin negotiation. Things have evolved
quite a bit overnight," stated the vice president.
According to Leite, there exists another club that is interested
in the player: Renerbache, from Turkey. The team is coached by the
Brazilain Zico, but Leite believes that the team does not stand a
chance in relation to Flamengo.
Ronaldo currently has a contract with Milan until June of 2008.
The player only played in 14 games this year for Milan and scored
only 7 goals. He has been plagued with a series of injuries, the
latest brining him back to Brazil to meet with his doctor.
On Wednesday, the team doctor of Flamengo, Jose Luiz Runco,
affirmed that the player has plenty of years left in him to play
the sport. He claimed that the current calf injury will be operated
on in two or three weeks. Joel Santana, the team's head coach,
stated that he is very content and confident that a deal will be
made between Ronaldo and Flamengo.
