"I hope this scene (winning the final) would repeat in this August at the Olympic Games," he said.
"I didn't win the gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games. I want to change the situation," he added.
The ambitious shooter once had his performance in shooting described "as strong as the Eiffel Tower".
"But today I feel that my performance was like elevators, with ups and downs," the Frenchman joked.
Gontcharov said he was "a little disappointed" at the eighth shot. "But in the end I made it," he said.
When asked for reason of the miss, the shooter said, "I was too hurried to shoot."
