The expectations were confirmed on Monday, one day after Flamengo won the state soccer tournament of Rio de Janeiro.
The current head coach, Joel Santana is headed to South Africa to lead the national team into the World Cup. Meanwhile, head coach of Goias, Caio Junior, is scheduled to take command of Flamengo after the team's game on Wednesday against America-MEX in the Libertadores Cup playoffs.
"I am very happy. I just received a phone call from the club, expressing their confidence in me, and I am ecstatic. Kleber Leite was the one to call and he was very firm in his vote of confidence. It will be a great challenge and I hope to be able to win over the players and then the crowd," said Caio Junior.
Flamengo expressed their confidence in the coach despite his failure to lead his team to the state championship of Goias.
Goias, lost to Itumbiara, coached by Cesar Gusmao.
"I am pleased to hear that the team's administration is behind me. I know that the team is going through a good phase and I only hope that I am able to give continuity to their success and the great work of Joel. Just like Joel, I am honest, clear, look at the players square in the eye and do not lie to them," said Caio Junior.
Caio Junior will officially take the helm on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro. He will observe a couple of practice games headed by Santana. Before this takes place, Caio Junior will need to speak to his current team and explain the reasons for his leaving Goias.
