South African officials, FIFA and the 2010 World Cup Organizing Committee held a press conference in Beijing on August 21, 2008, to detail the preparations South Africa has made for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Dr Danny Jordaan, CEO of FIFA's Organizing Committee in South Africa, briefly introduced the preparations South Africa has made for this mega-tournament. He pointed out that the South African government has promised that all ten stadiums will be ready for final FIFA inspection by December 2009.
He also pointed out that Africa is the only continent never to have hosted the world’s two biggest sports events, the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. The 2010 World Cup will therefore be the first time for the African continent to host a major tournament.
