Liang Wenchong birdies 16. On the 17th green behind him is Graeme McDowell, who had just birdied 16 to lead the field on 9-under.

A special mention should go to Andrew Bonhomme of Australia. He is hardly a household name, and wasn't doing anything particular to change that in this tournament, but after parring the first he had four straight birdies from the five holes he played in his third round to come charging up the leaderboard to 6-under, only four shots off the pace and almost into contention. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his form when the third round gets under way again tomorrow.
As things stand there is no prospect of the tournament being completed on schedule, and it has already been agreed that it will continue through Monday, an outcome that will call for decision-making for those who are fans of tennis as well, as the Shanghai Masters kicks off in competition with the golf.
Shot of the day: Two shots really. Big Phil Mickelson was one of the few who took on the green from the tee at the 290-yard par 4 16th. His drive ran straight past the flag to the rough behind, shaving the hole on the way for what would have been a rare hole-in-one albatross. His chip shot from the rough behind the green then did the same to rob him of an eagle. Never mind – he had a tap in for birdie.

Phil Mickelson almost holed his eagle chip on 16, having previously almost holed his tee-shot.
