No matter where one travels in the world, there is always a sense of wonderment at the amazing diversity of wildlife species, each unique in their own way. One distinctive feature of some species is their speed. These animals use rapid running as both a hunting tactic and a defensive tool to ensure survival. It is a little difficult to say which animal is the absolute fastest in the world. As it's a little difficult to measure this in the air or water, the absolute "fastest" moving animals in the world are mostly land-based. Here is a list of the world's 10 fastest land animals, agile beasts living in the fast lane.
Average speed: 42 mph
The gray fox is a fast and agile hunter found in North and Central America. It is a relatively small canine weighing approximately 10 lbs. The Gray Fox, while frequently eating meat, will then round out its diet with a helping of any type of fruit or vegetable it finds. They use their speed and stealth to hunt rabbits, while also catching voles, mice, shrews and birds. It has the ability to climb trees (unique among canines) and can jump from one branch to another. It is a solitary animal, preferring to hunt alone or with a mating partner.
